Sherbrooke Village Summer Camps

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

Aspiring artists, photographers and musicians from Nova Scotia and beyond will have the opportunity to learn new skills at Sherbrooke Village's summer and fall camps.

The fourth annual Road to Stanfest Songwriting Camp, produced in partnership with the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, will be held June 28 to July 1 and feature four of Nova Scotia's best-loved songwriters. Sherbrooke native Clary Croft and Sons of Maxwell's Dave Carroll will return for a fourth year, and Susan Crowe will return for her second stint as instructor. J.P. Cormier will participate for his first year and round out the instructors.

All students attending the camp will have the opportunity to attend Stanfest and some will participate on stage in a special workshop. There will be a free concert on Canada Day from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. headlined by J.P. Cormier.

Sherbrooke Village Fiddle Camp, from July 5-8, will feature Kimberley and Skip Holmes, and Ivan and Vivian Hicks and Stan Chapman. The camp will instruct students in all levels of fiddle, guitar and piano and finish with a grand finale concert on July 9 featuring the students and instructors.

Sherbrooke Village costumer, Meg Wilcox will host two Victorian craft workshops this summer. A one-day workshop in felt applique embroidery will be held on July 17 and a bead embroidery workshop will be held Sept.18 and 19.

Susan Paterson will return to instruct the watercolour painting workshop from Aug. 9-12. Her work has appeared in galleries across the country for more than 30 years and is included in collections in the United States, England and Japan. She is also a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.

Sherbrooke Village camps are expanding this season to include a four-day photography camp with well-known tourism photographer Wally Hayes. The camp will be held Oct. 4-7.
