Atlantic Environment Ministers Talk Green Economy

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Nova Scotia's plans to address climate change, clean air, waste management and the green economy were shared today, June 15, by Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau with his counterparts from Atlantic Canada. The Council of Atlantic Environment Ministers met in Fredericton.

The conference theme, Greening of the 21st Century, focused on investment in environmental projects that also spurs economic growth and innovation that addresses climate change.

"Governments are investing in green projects and technology now, but we must co-operate as a region to create more jobs and help further stimulate our economies," said Mr. Belliveau. "Investing in our communities will ultimately help make life better for families in every part of our province and our region."

Nova Scotia is funding projects that reduce greenhouse gases and air pollutants, and is committed to establishing a voluntary carbon offset fund to further support a sustainable, prosperous economy while protecting the environment.

These actions will help the province meet commitments in the Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act and the Climate Change Action Plan, and also contributes to Nova Scotia's green economy.
