The province is looking for the public's help with a 30-year-old unsolved homicide case.

The Department of Justice will offer a cash reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individual(s) responsible in the homicide case of Jason Robert Barkhouse of East Dalhousie, Kings Co.

In the early morning of June 26, 1980, a culprit(s) entered Mr. Barkhouse's residence in East Dalhousie and severely assaulted him, resulting in his death. A female acquaintance who was at the residence at the time of the unlawful entry was also severely assaulted. The investigation revealed that Mr. Barkhouse had also been assaulted weeks prior to this incident.

"We urge anyone with any information related to Mr. Barkhouse's death, or any other of Nova Scotia's unsolved crimes, to please come forward," said Justice Minister Ross Landry. "Twenty years have passed since this tragedy, so some information may now seem insignificant. But that seemingly insignificant piece of information could have a big impact on getting justice for Mr. Barkhouse and his family."

Anyone with information about this case can call the Department of Justice, Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, toll-free at 1-888-710-9090.

Those who come forward with information will be expected to provide their name and contact information. In addition, they may be called to testify in court. All calls to the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program will be recorded.

More information on this case, and other cases, can be found on the Department of Justice website at www.gov.ns.ca/just .

The Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program was launched in October 2006 as another tool for law enforcement to use in solving crime. There are now 61 cases in the program.
