August is IncrEDIBLE Picnic Month in Nova Scotia

Pack your picnic basket with local food and head to one of the eight communities hosting an IncrEDIBLE Picnic throughout the province in August.

Nova Scotians will have a chance to enjoy fresh local food with family and friends as Select Nova Scotia helps celebrate local food.

The IncrEDBILE Picnics showcase locally grown and produced fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads and beverages. The picnics provide a food celebration that brings together communities, offers cooking ideas from local chefs, and informs people where they can buy local. Each picnic location will have a variety of family activities that include chefs, artisans, and entertainment.

"The IncrEDIBLE picnics offer a great way to find out more about the local agriculture and agri-food businesses that help bring food to your table and it is a wonderful way to enjoy the day with family and friends," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "Nova Scotians are making a difference for our farmers, for our economy and for our way of life by choosing local foods."

The main picnics will be held on Sundays in August, all with rain locations. People can bring their own picnic made up of local foods, or they may purchase food and beverages from the various vendors on the site. Vendors who wish to set up at one of the picnics are encouraged to contact venue organizers.

The following picnics will be held between 11 a.m and 3 p.m.

  • Aug. 1 - Hants County Exhibition, Windsor
  • Aug. 8 - Downtown Civic Square, Truro
  • Aug. 15 - Noggins Corner Farm, Wolfville and Muir Murray Winery, Wolfville
  • Aug. 22 - Hubbards Farmers' Market, Hubbards; Mabou Community Centre, Mabou; Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers' Market, Musquodoboit Harbour; Annapolis Royal Farmers' and Traders' Market, Annapolis Royal.

The picnic at Alderney Landing, Dartmouth, on Aug. 22, will be held from 10 a.m to 3 p.m.

Select Nova Scotia was developed by the province to create partnerships with food producers, processors, retailers, food service and consumers and to promote the sale and consumption of Nova Scotia grown and produced food.
