Environmental Site Work Planned for Richmond and Guysborough Counties

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Water and soil testing will be carried out on select provincial sites in Richmond County during the week of July 26 and in Guysborough County in August.

The work is to determine the condition of the land where debris from two separate marine oil spills is stored. Drilling equipment will be used to collect the samples.

The debris from the Arrow and the Kurdistan spills was placed on federal, provincial and private lands in those areas of the province during the 1970s.

Additional studies are being conducted to gather more details on the condition of the land and to make recommendations on any short or long-term measures that may be necessary.
