Highland Village Museum Releases September Events Schedule
The September line up for Highland Village Museum features celebrations and festivals for all ages to enjoy.
The village celebrates Pioneer Day on Saturday, Sept. 11, with a festival of rural life featuring wool and cloth demonstrations, Gaelic music and dance, a corn boil, and a real milling frolic. The festivities run from noon to 5 p.m. Regular admission rates apply.
Saturday, Sept. 18, marks the 50th anniversary of the Nova Scotia Highland Village Society at the Iona Legion. The fun-filled evening includes dinner and a square dance.
On Thursday, Sept.23, the museum will host an anniversary summer concert series with Hughie MacKenzie's In Story and Song concert. The event will be a blend of story and song chronicling the life of the 20th century bard from Rear Christmas Island. The concert will start at 7 p.m. in the Malagawatch Church in the village. Admission is $15 and prepaid reservations are required.
St. Michael's Day celebrations will finish off the month. There will be a special milling frolic in the Centre Hallway House from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Tea and traditional sweet breads will be served. General admission fees apply.
