East Richmond Education Centre Officially Opens

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

East Richmond students in grades Primary to 8 are enjoying a newly renovated school.

Education Minister Marilyn More joined students, parents, teachers, staff, school board and government officials today, Oct. 8, for the official opening of the East Richmond Education Centre in St. Peter's, Richmond Co.

"Along with the educational benefits provided by the renovations, the school has a new community space and is home to a day care," said Ms. More. "Expanding the school and providing a place where the community can come together is the right decision to make life better for families in Richmond County."

Previously, East Richmond students attended school at two sites in the same area. As of January 2009, with the additions and renovations complete, all 320 students now attend school in the same building.

The $8.2-million additions and renovations include a classroom wing, cafeteria, music room, science room, visual arts space, and a 6,000-square-foot expansion to the gymnasium.

"Our state of the art facility allows us to nurture our children and provide them with a rich and varied educational experience," said Mary Ellen Carter, school principal.

"The community involvement has been remarkable and the support provided to us as we progressed through our growing pains has been greatly appreciated."

The renovations and additions also include an assembly space for use by the community. The school is also home to a day care and the St. Peter's Technology and Learning Centre.
