Nova Scotia veterans and communities will have access to better facilities through the Legion Capital Assistance Program.

From roof repairs to heating-system upgrades to window and door replacements, 18 legions across the province will benefit from the program.

"Our royal Canadian legions play a pivotal role in supporting communities and our veterans throughout Nova Scotia," said Ramona Jennex, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This funding will provide repairs and improvements to 18 legions where many community activities, events and public meetings take place."

In July, the province announced the Legion Capital Assistance Program, a $100,000 application-based program that provides funding for repairs to legion buildings.

"On behalf of the legion branches that will benefit from the Legion Capital Assistance Program, we thank the provincial government for this program, which will enable legion branches to repair their buildings so they can continue to serve veterans and members of their communities," said Les Nash, president of Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command.

The program provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum contribution of $10,000, for approved projects.

The Legion Capital Assistance Program is fully committed this fiscal year.
