Another case in Nova Scotia's Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes was announced today, Nov. 19.

The Department of Justice will offer a cash reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individual(s) responsible in the homicide case of Brett Elizabeth MacKinnon of Glace Bay.

Twenty-one year old Ms. MacKinnon was last seen in early June 2006 and was reported missing on July 13. On Nov. 21, 2008, local residents found her remains in an area known for hiking and ATV trails on the outskirts of Glace Bay.

"I urge anyone with information to please come forward to police. No piece of information is too trivial," said Justice Minister Ross Landry. "We want to see criminals brought to justice and be able to bring closure to the family of the late Ms. MacKinnon."

Anyone with information about this case can call the Department of Justice, Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, toll-free at 1-888-710-9090.

Those who come forward with information will be expected to provide their name and contact information. In addition, they may be called to testify in court. All calls to the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program will be recorded.

More information on this case, and other cases, can be found on the Department of Justice website at www.gov.ns.ca/just .

The Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program was launched in October 2006 as another tool for law enforcement to use in solving crime. There are now 62 active cases in the program.
