Crime Prevention Grants Available

The province is supporting projects to prevent and reduce crime in Nova Scotia.

The Department of Justice is helping to build safer communities by funding community-based activities, projects, and programs that address the roots of crime.

"We are working to prevent crime by supporting community organizations with funding for equipment, materials, and other basic items," said Justice Minister Ross Landry.

The one-time Community Crime Prevention and Reduction Grant Program provides grants between $1,000 and $5,000.

"Whether it provides a family skate hour at the local rink or new basketball hoops for a youth club, this funding helps address the roots of crime at the community level, in very practical ways," said Mr. Landry.

Last year, the crime prevention grants program supported projects dealing with youth activities and conferences, Internet safety, victim support and awareness, seniors' safety, aboriginal youth and a crime prevention association.
