Museums Welcome Visitors During Canada Games

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the Museum of Natural History, in Halifax, are ready to welcome visitors as the 2011 Canada Games take centre stage in Halifax from Feb. 12 to 27.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will feature Passport to Adventure, a family program that allows visitors to try their hand at seafaring skills and traditions. Visitors will learn how to caulk the hull of a boat, stow a hammock, and cross the line, as they visit exotic ports of call at stations around the museum. Other activities include sailors games, crafts, facepainting and a storytellers circle.

A T. rex Named Sue, an exhibit featuring the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever discovered, has thrilled 22,000 visitors and continues to make its mark at the Museum of Natural History. Interactive displays and a dig pit help young paleontologists learn what life was like for Sue.

Normally closed on Mondays for the winter season, both museums will open Mondays with regular hours during the games.
