Province Wants Input on Proposed New Raised-Vehicle Regulations

If your vehicle is riding high, the province wants to hear from you.

The province is starting public consultations on proposed new regulations for raised vehicles. That means anything from trucks with oversized tires, to cars with special kits installed that raise their suspensions.

"Road safety is important to all of us. We want to be sure that all vehicles driven on Nova Scotian roads are safe," said John MacDonell, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.

The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators has issued guidelines for raised vehicles. Those guidelines, and a provincial discussion paper on this issue, are available at www.gov.ns.ca/snsmr.

The guidelines include acceptable modifications to the frames, bumpers, lights and tires of a vehicle that may be driven on public roads.

The province intends to establish a clear set of specifications for raised vehicles that will be easy for all to understand and apply.
