Nature Awaits Nova Scotians, Visitors
Nova Scotians are encouraged to reserve some time with nature by visiting provincial camping parks.
The provincial park reservation lines will open Saturday, April 2.
"Nova Scotia parks have more to offer than ever," said Natural Resources Minister Charlie Parker. "By investing in our park system, we are providing first-class facilities that offer visitors more opportunities to enjoy nature's finest experiences.
"Parks are a great way for families to get together and spend quality time while enjoying Nova Scotia's natural beauty."
Laurie Provincial Park along with sites in Mira, Whycocomagh and Cape Chignecto all benefitted from the Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.
Redeveloped Laurie Park has upgraded campsites, a new central washroom and improved services. Mira River Provincial Park will offer the most campsites in the province, a new washroom and serviced sites. At Cape Chignecto, visitors will have a chance to use upgraded trails as part of their experience. Whycocomagh Provincial Park added serviced sites and the first Yurts, which are tent-like structures with nylon and canvas covering a steel frame.
Visitors can choose sites within camping parks through the online reservation system by following the link at www.novascotiaparks.ca or by calling 1-888-544-3434, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. Service is available in English and French.
Beyond camping, provincial parks provide attractions and activities for all ages, from observers to the experienced outdoors people. Facilities include beach and day-use parks, as well as many trails.
Day-use provincial parks operate from Victoria Day weekend until Thanksgiving Day weekend. Camping park dates vary by park, with openings in May and June and closings in September and October.
Reservation fees are $9, with a $7 cancellation fee. Fees are $18.36 for basic camping, $24.48 for parks with flush toilets and showers and $32.64 for water and electrical sites at Porters Lake. Wi-Fi is available at a designated area in 12 of the camping parks from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
No alcohol is permitted in provincial parks from the opening date to checkout time on July 3.
