Province to Create More Efficient Summary Offence Ticket Process

Justice

Changes to the Summary Proceedings Act will create a more timely and efficient process, Justice Minister Ross Landry said today, April 29.

Cabinet will no longer have to approve changes to the Summary Offence Ticket process. The Minister of Justice will now have that authority, which will make it faster and more efficient.

"We are improving the way we do business. This is about streamlining our processes to save time and resources," said Justice Minister Ross Landry. "The transfer of authority will in no way impact how proposed changes are reviewed. It will only improve how quickly the changes are approved."

With the amendments, the Justice Department will continue to review all proposed changes to the Summary Offence Ticket Regulations, but final sign off will now be by the Justice Minister.

This will eliminate 15 to 20 routine submissions to Executive Council per year.
