50+ Expo To Be Celebrated June 10 and 11

Seniors (Oct. 2007 - Aug. 2021)

The 50-plus expo is back at Exhibition Park in Halifax this Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11, for those looking for information on positive aging.

"The 50-plus expo is a great place for seniors and their families to find useful information and to participate in presentations on ways to make aging a more positive, fulfilling experience," said Denise Peterson-Rafuse, Minister of Seniors.

The 50+ Expo features more than 100 information and trade exhibits, each offering opportunities and services tailored to older Nova Scotians, and a full schedule of workshops and presentations.

At noon on Saturday the 2011 Remarkable Seniors Awards will be presented to seven seniors for making their communities better through leadership, volunteer and community service work.

There will also be a series of presentations on financial planning, creating proper wills and power of attorney. Other presentations include long-term care insurance options and the joy of aging by the Nova Scotia Mental Health Network. Visitors to the Department of Seniors' exhibit can learn about services and benefits for seniors in the province.

This year's feature entertainment is a tribute to Elvis by Thane Dunn and the Cadillac Kings. Long-time favourites returning this year include Neville MacKay of My Mother's Bloomers and Pete Luckett of Pete's Frootique. The Annual Star Search Talent Contest is back and will be hosted by Kool FM's Griff and Caroline.

The 50-plus expo's daily program will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Exhibition Park is at 200 Prospect Rd. Tickets are $5 per day and available at the door.

The expo is a non-profit event and is sponsored by the Department of Seniors and private sector partners.
