Funding for Hospital Capital Equipment

Health and Wellness

The province is spending $7 million on capital equipment requests to ensure hospitals are well equipped to provide the best care.

"I want to ensure Nova Scotia hospitals are well equipped to offer the best care as part of our Better Care Sooner plan," said Health and Wellness Minister Maureen MacDonald. "We will continue to replace essential equipment when needed as part of our commitment to reduce health care wait times."

The $7-million in funding includes:

  • $3.2 million to Capital Health to replace two cardiac catheterization suites at the Halifax Infirmary. These units are used for diagnosing and repairing heart problems
  • $1.8 million to Capital Health to replace operating room lights at the Victoria General and Halifax Infirmary
  • $1.96 million to Annapolis Valley Health to replace 216 patient beds which are at the end of their life cycle. The new beds will be used at the Valley Regional, Soldier's Memorial and the Annapolis Community hospitals.

"We will continue to work with the district health authorities and IWK to address capital priorities as they come forward," said Ms. MacDonald.
