Province and Teachers Reach Tentative Contract Agreement

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

The province and the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU), representing public school teachers, announced today, Sept. 23, that they reached a tentative contract agreement.

"I want to congratulate both parties for working hard to reach an agreement that is in the best interests of students and public education," said Education Minister Ramona Jennex.

"Our provincial executive is recommending to our members that the contract be accepted," said NSTU president Alexis Allen.

Regional meetings with teachers are expected to begin Tuesday.

The last provincial agreement with teachers expired on July 31, 2010.

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released until the agreement is ratified by union members.

There are about 10,000 public school teachers in Nova Scotia.
