Climate Change Adaptation Projects Help Nova Scotia

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Nova Scotia will be better prepared for the effects of climate change after funding for new adaptation projects.

Three projects will receive support from this year's Climate Change Adaptation Fund for community-based projects.

"These projects will play an important role in helping Nova Scotia address our changing climate," said Environment Minister, Sterling Belliveau. "We must find ways to adapt to impacts such as rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and more intense storms."
Three 2011-2012 adaptation fund projects received a combined $36,264.

  • In partnership with Halifax Regional Municipality and Halifax Water, the Ecology Action Centre will conduct a stormwater management project to help planners, developers and municipal officials deal with urban flooding caused by climate change. This project will receive $15,000 from the adaptation fund.

  • A project by the Municipality of the District of Chester and Dalhousie University's marine affairs program will help the municipality to identify coastal adaptation options for their Climate Change Action Plan. This project will receive $10,200 in funding.

  • The School for Resource and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University will join with the Department of Education and public schools to find out how students from different areas and backgrounds view climate change. The findings will be used to design education and outreach programs. This project will receive $11,064 in funding.
