Four green business leaders are making a name for themselves and Nova Scotia by being recognized for their sustainable business efforts.

Raymond Cote, Marty Janowitz, Charles Cartmill and Thomas Rankin have been named to Delta Management's Clean50 list of outstanding contributors to clean capitalism. Delta Management is an executive search firm with a focus on clean technology, corporate social responsibility and sustainability professionals.

"These entrepreneurs, executives and financiers show all of us that we can protect the environment while creating jobs and economic success," said Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Percy Paris. "By investing in clean technology we are creating the good jobs that Nova Scotians deserve."

"I would like to congratulate these four remarkable individuals," said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau. "We are so proud of their accomplishments and their significant contribution to Nova Scotia's clean technology sector, which is gaining both national and international recognition."

Mr. Cote has been called Canada's father of industrial ecology for his 40 years of work as an activist, public servant and professor pursuing sustainability.

Mr. Janowitz has worked with governments, corporations and communities to advance a variety of progressive initiatives. As vice-president of sustainability with Stantec, a global professional services organization, he leads by example for the company's 11,000 colleagues.

Mr. Cartmill is the founder and CEO of LED Roadway Lighting. He was recognized for creating energy efficient street lighting, and his activity with industry associations that advocate environmental and economic sustainability.

Mr. Rankin works with the province as an investment manager at Innovacorp. He was selected for creating funding for clean technology investments, including the $25-million Nova Scotia Cleantech Fund and the ecoNova Scotia Fund for Clean Air and Climate Change.

Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have each committed $15 million toward the creation of a new venture capital fund which will invest in companies from the clean technology, life sciences, information technology and other high-growth sectors throughout Atlantic Canada.
