Province Redesigns Vehicle Licence Plates

Soon Nova Scotians registering vehicles will receive modern redesigned licence plates produced by Waldale Manufacturing Ltd. in Amherst.

"The province's licence plates have remained largely unchanged for over 20 years," said John MacDonell, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This new plate design looks more modern, has improved visibility, and will help ensure that Nova Scotia is highlighting the Bluenose, one of our most highly visible provincial icons."

Two significant changes to licence plates issued to cars, trucks and trailers are removing the painted border and the validation sticker well on the upper left-hand corner. The new plates also have a standard font, less overlap on the Bluenose graphic, and bolt holes that meet North American vehicle standards.

To avoid waste, the new plates will be issued after the remaining current plates are gone, which will remain valid.

Beginning Nov. 1, validation stickers will go only on the right-hand side of the plate. Left-side stickers issued before then should be displayed on the left.

Motorcycle and off-highway plates are not part of the redesign.
