Spring Weight Restrictions to Begin

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

The weight limit for commercial vehicles will be reduced on posted provincial roads during the second week of March for the annual spring weight restrictions.

At 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 5, restrictions will be levied in Yarmouth, Digby, Annapolis, Queens, Kings, Shelburne, Lunenburg, Halifax and Hants counties.

At 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 12, restrictions will be in affect in Cumberland, Colchester, Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough, Richmond, Victoria, Inverness and Cape Breton counties.

The week-long weight restrictions on heavy trucks are necessary during the spring thaw to help protect roads that are weakened by mild and wet weather.

If the dates change because of weather conditions, another announcement will be made.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal monitors air and road temperatures and works closely with the trucking industry and Environment Canada to determine the date that best protects the province's road surfaces.

A list of exempt roads will be published in a number of newspapers across the province.

Updated information is posted on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/trucking/springweight.asp .
