Environment Investigating Release of Sewage in Middleton

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Department of Environment staff are investigating the release of sewage into Eel Creek in Middleton, Annapolis Co., west of Riverside Park.

The department was notified by the Town of Middleton on March 29 that during daily water quality sampling an employee noticed a sewage pipe from Middleton's sewer treatment plant was broken. A new pipe has been installed to contain any further release into the environment.

At this time the amount of sewage released is unknown, so the province is asking residents to avoid contact with water in the area. Residents are advised not to swim in, drink from, or eat fish from water sources west of Riverside Park, including the Annapolis River.

The province is reviewing plans by the town to mitigate any potential impacts to the environment.

An update will be issued when more information is available.
