Water Safe Following Release of Sewage in Middleton

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

The Department of Environment is advising residents in Middleton, Annapolis Co., their drinking water is safe following the release of sewage into Eel Creek.

The department investigation has determined this was a limited release, over less than a 24-hour period, into fast moving water that would quickly move any sewage out of the area.

The Town of Middleton municipal water supply and residents with private wells have not been impacted and the town's drinking water is safe.

The surface water quality in Eel Creek and the Annapolis River is safe for recreational use. Untreated surface water supplies like creeks, rivers and lakes are never considered a reliable, or safe source of drinking water.

A broken pipe from Middleton's sewage treatment plant has been repaired and the sewage contained.
