Climate Change Adaptation Projects Help Nova Scotia

The province is helping communities prepare for the challenges and opportunities linked to climate change.

The Department of Environment is once again offering up to $25,000 through its Climate Change Adaptation Fund.

"Nova Scotians need to prepare for the realities of climate change," said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau. "Through this fund, we're encouraging community-based projects that help adapt to our changing climate."

The fund provides up to 100 per cent of the total cost of projects that help Nova Scotians become more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Last year, the fund supported research on stormwater management, coastal adaptation options and preparing educational materials for people from different cultures and backgrounds.

"The Climate Change Adaptation Fund enabled a win-win for Dalhousie and Nova Scotia students," said Kate Sherren, assistant professor of resource and environment studies at Dalhousie University. "Teachers received innovative new Nova Scotia-specific climate change teaching resources, and Dalhousie was able to foster a masters student to research and write the materials."

The deadline for applications is June 22. Successful projects will be announced in July.
