Dates Extended for Wildlife Resources Cards

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Hunters and trappers in Nova Scotia will save a total of $530,000 in renewal fees thanks to a deadline extension on wildlife resources cards. The province is giving cardholders at least three more years before a more modern certification system replaces the old card system. No matter what date is printed on a card it will remain valid until Dec. 31, 2015.

"Government is saving hunters and trappers money and reducing government costs by ensuring that all wildlife resources cards in circulation will remain valid for another three years," said Natural Resources Minister Charlie Parker.

Wildlife resources cards are identification cards that show hunters and trappers are certified. About 80,000 cards are in circulation. Most were due to expire at the end of this year.

"We are giving cardholders plenty of notice that they will not have to renew their cards next December," said Mr. Parker.

The Department of Natural Resources is considering options for a more modern licensing system to make certification simpler and more efficient for hunters and trappers and to reduce government costs. The extension on the validity of wildlife resources cards will allow more time to develop options for a new system.

Hunters and trappers with wildlife resources cards should continue to keep their contact information up to date. Changes to phone numbers, email addresses, or civic or mailing addresses should be reported by visiting www.gov.ns.ca/natr, by calling toll free, 1-888-896-1207, or by contacting a local Department of Natural Resources office.
