Export Achievement Awards Celebrate Local Companies

The 28th annual Export Achievement Awards will celebrate some of the province's top exporters at a luncheon on Tuesday, May 15.

Eleven companies from across Nova Scotia, recognized in their communities for excellence in exporting, will be honoured at the Export Achievement Awards luncheon, presented by Nova Scotia Business Inc., the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Trade Team Nova Scotia. One of the companies will be named Nova Scotia's exporter of the year.

"Nova Scotia is known worldwide for producing high-quality products and services," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. "It is important to celebrate the successes of Nova Scotia's talented export companies and recognize the contributions exporters make to the economy."

This year's award recipients are:

  • Kenney and Ross Limited, Port Saxon, Shelburne Co.
  • National Gypsum Canada Ltd., Milford Station, Hants Co.
  • Pearl and Daisy Natural Soap, Londonderry, Colchester Co.
  • Protocase, Sydney
  • Scotian Gold, Coldbrook
  • Sissiboo Investments, Weymouth
  • TecBox, Rhodes Corner, Lunenburg Co.

"The 2012 Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards are about honouring excellence in Atlantic Canadian companies with a global focus," said Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, on behalf of ACOA Minister Bernard Valcourt. "Our government congratulates all the nominees and commends their commitment to innovation and productivity that results in success internationally and jobs, growth and prosperity here at home."

This year's keynote speaker Darren Zwicker, executive vice-president of LED Roadway Lighting Ltd., will talk about his experience as a Nova Scotia exporter. He will discuss how LED has become a leading designer and manufacturer of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting fixtures, control systems, and installing systems around the globe.

"Every year I am pleased to see the accomplishments made by companies around the province," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. "At NSBI, we helped our companies do business in over 40 countries last year and we are seeing more and more companies working with us to compete globally.

"Through trade, Nova Scotia businesses are able to gain access to more consumers and, last year, 850 Nova Scotia companies exported $9.53 billion in goods and services to domestic and global markets."
