Digby Neck Road Open

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

A section of Route 217 in Rossway, Digby Co., is now open. It was closed during the evening of May 10 because of a damaged culvert.

"I want to thank the crew for all their hard work," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Bill Estabrooks today, May 17. "The crew was out all night when they first learned the culvert was damaged. They worked over the weekend to get the new bridge built as soon as they could for the residents. They did a great job."

The culvert was at the bottom of Seawall Hill. It was damaged by heavy rain. Staff from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal closed the road to ensure public safety and to allow them to build a new bridge to replace the culvert.

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Government's commitment to repairing highways, roads and bridges is outlined in Nova Scotia's 5-Year Highway Improvement Plan www.gov.ns.ca/tran/highways/5yearplan/Plan_2012-13.pdf
