Escape at Cape Breton Correctional Facility

A man briefly escaped from the Cape Breton Correctional Facility in Sydney today, May 24.

The 46-year-old man was in the outdoor exercise yard and left the confines of the facility on foot at about 3 p.m. Correctional officers began pursuit, and the man, who was at the facility under remand, was apprehended by the correctional officers about 500 metres from the facility.

An investigation into the incident has begun.

The man is in police custody and charges are pending.
