Ministerial Statement, Electoral Boundaries Interim Report

Justice

NOTE: The following is a ministerial statement by Ross Landry, Attorney General of Nova Scotia for today, June 1.

I want to thank the members of the Electoral Boundaries Commission for the interim report on Nova Scotia's electoral boundaries.

This is an important, independent process and the independent commission has raised some complex questions today.

I will be asking the chair of the commission to meet with me to discuss the interim report.

Until I have had a chance to review the report in detail, and discuss some of these questions directly with the chair, I will not make any further public comment on the matter.

The commission is an independent body that was appointed by a Select Committee of the House of Assembly on Dec. 30, 2011.

The House of Assembly set the terms of reference for the commission with a final report to be submitted by Aug. 31, 2012. The final report must meet the terms of reference as set out by the House of Assembly.
