Ten Legions Receive Provincial Funding

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

The province is helping 10 Royal Canadian Legions serve veterans and their communities better with more than $63,000 for new doors and windows, washroom upgrades and roof repairs through the Legion Capital Assistance Program.

"This program helps upgrade facilities where Nova Scotia veterans and community members participate in events, public meetings and community activities," said John MacDonell, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "The improvements will help the legions to better provide services to their communities."

The program provides funding for repairs such as upgrades to on-site wastewater and water systems, bathrooms, kitchens, heating systems and repairs or replacement of windows, doors and roofs.

"The continued support of our capital projects allows branches in communities throughout Nova Scotia to make much needed repairs and upgrades to our facilites," said Jean Marie Deveaux, president,Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command, Royal Canadian Legion. "The Royal Canadian Legion is grateful for the support from the province as it continues to serve veterans, their families, and the youth and seniors of Nova Scotia."

The program provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum of $10,000.
