Farm Plates Changes Will Help Agriculture Industry

Farmers and fish harvesters can now help neighbours in the industry with changes that take effect today, Oct. 31.

Changes to the Commercial Farmer and Fisher Truck Registration regulations allow farmers and fish harvesters to use farm vehicles to carry produce or supplies to market or transport workers on farmland.

"We understand that having strong resource sectors is important to the rural economy in Nova Scotia," said John MacDonell, minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This government is helping farmers and fish harvesters throughout the province by allowing better use of their vehicles."

"This is a good step," said Beth Densmore, president of Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture. "Many farmers do have farm plates and having this added flexibility will certainly be beneficial to us."

The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture had requested the changes be made in order to reflect changes in the industry.
