Motor Vehicle Act Clarified by Amendments

An amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act will balance the privacy of Nova Scotia drivers with the rights of citizens who want to support The War Amps of Canada.

Legislation introduced today, Nov. 8, by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister John MacDonell, will clarify how information is provided to The War Amps and how Nova Scotians can request their information be withheld.

"Nova Scotians are currently able to choose whether they wish to have their information sent to The War Amps or not, however, this amendment will help clarify how they do this," said Mr. MacDonell.

The Registry of Motor Vehicles provides the names and addresses of drivers to The War Amps unless a request has been made to withhold their information. Requests can be made in-person, by telephone, by fax or by mail.

The War Amps uses the names and addresses of drivers for its popular Key Return program, which helped more than 500 drivers who lost their keys last year.
