Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Join people from around the world and watch Nova Scotia's famous groundhog Shubencadie Sam prepare for his spring prediction on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 8 a.m.

Sam's first week of burrowing into the webcam world earned him a top 10 honour on the international site Earthcam at www.earthcam.com/topten.php. To watch Sam on his site, visit www.novascotiawebcams.com/special/shubenacadie-sam.html.

Sam shares the spotlight with other webcams in Bangkok, Thailand, the Czech Republic and Amman, Jordan.

"It's so exciting for all my animal friends at the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park to have lots of visitors," said Sam, via his Twitter account @ShubenacadieSam. "The weather has been so cold here in Nova Scotia, I am hoping I won't see my shadow on Saturday."

According to folklore, if Sam doesn't see his shadow, there will be an early spring; otherwise it is six more weeks of winter.

Sam has built more than 300 followers during his short stint on Twitter.

Sam's home at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park will open at 7 a.m. on Saturday with free admission.

Free hot drinks will be provided along with snowshoeing, crafts, face painting and a groundhog game.
