Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is co-operating fully with the RCMP which is investigating the tragic incident that occurred last night on the Englishtown Ferry.

On Monday, March 25 at about 9 p.m., a car plunged into St. Ann's Bay off the ferry.

"My first thoughts are for all involved at this difficult time," said Maurice Smith, Minister, Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "Along with the RCMP, we are following through with our own standard protocols that includes an internal investigation on what happened."

An internal investigation includes interviews with crew members working at the time and an inspection of the ferry.

The Englishtown Ferry is out of service until further notice. It is one of the province's newest and busiest ferries. The ferry went into service in 2008.
