Province Launches New Accessible Community Van

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

People in Annapolis and western Kings County now have access to safe, affordable and accessible transportation.

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister John MacDonell officially launched a new accessible van for people living in the area today, June 11.

"We all use some form of transportation for almost everything we do, such as going to work or school, buying groceries, taking part in community activities or visiting with friends or family, or getting to medical appointments," said Mr. MacDonell. "We are committed to making life better for families and seniors and this funding helps the local organization provide affordable and accessible transportation for those who need it."

Trans County Transportation Society purchased the vehicle with the assistance of $50,000 from the Accessible Transportation Assistance Program. The program provides up to 50 per cent of the total capital costs, to a maximum of $50,000, for new vehicles. It also provides up to 50 per cent to a maximum of $10,000 for used vehicles.

"Trans County Transportation Society wishes to thank the province for the $50,000 grant it received to assist with the acquisition of a 2013 low-floor accessible vehicle," said Phil Milo, chair of the society's board.

"This vehicle allows the society to partner with the Annapolis County Housing Corporation by providing valuable transportation options to the residents that call these facilities home. Without the support of the Accessible Transportation Assistance Program, we could not offer these residents the quality of life they deserve."

Trans County Transportation Society is a charitable organization providing door-to-door transportation services to the residents of Annapolis County and western Kings County.
