Health and Wellness

Organizations dedicated to supporting people living with mental illness and addictions can now apply for additional funds through the province's community grant program.

Applications are now being accepted for the Mental Health and Addictions Community Grants, part of Nova Scotia's first-ever mental health and addictions strategy Together We Can.

"Following on the success of the community grant program last year, I am very happy to offer these grants to communities again to organizations across Nova Scotia," said David Wilson, Minister of Health and Wellness. "These grants go to organizations who make a real difference in the lives of people living with mental health and addictions issues."

Funding grants are available for community organizations offering programs for:

  • diverse communities including francophone, First Nations, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered and intersex (LGBTI) and African Nova Scotians
  • children and youth
  • mental health and addictions promotion
  • community supports
  • reducing stigma and discrimination
  • persons with disabilities
  • the workplace
  • substance use and gambling

The province will give a total $1,000,000 in grants in 2013-14.

Online applications for the grants will be accepted until July 5. Applications can be found at: http://novascotia.ca/health/mhs/mental-health-addiction-strategy.asp.
