Canada's Parks Day in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotians can enjoy celebrations at many provincial parks on Saturday, July 20, to mark Canada's Parks Day.

"We encourage people to visit one of our 120 provincial parks, especially on Canada's Parks Day, to enjoy healthy outdoor activities," said Natural Resources Minister Charlie Parker. "Nova Scotia's parks are places to escape our busy schedules, appreciate nature, challenge ourselves, or just enjoy family time."

Nova Scotians can enjoy family fun day events, scavenger hunts, sand castle competitions, nature walks, and more at over 13 provincial parks on Saturday.

The Dominion area of Cape Breton Regional Municipality will celebrate the 32nd annual Seaside Daze Festival, as well as the completion of work to stabilize the beach area at Dominion Beach Provincial Park. There will be a barbecue at the main park building from noon until 1 p.m.

Other events include:

  • an appearance by the famous Mira River ghost, Mira River Park, Cape Breton Regional Municipality
  • a picnic and hike, Uniacke Estate Museum Park, Hants Co.
  • the amazing race nature event, Ellenwood Lake Park, Yarmouth Co.
  • scavenger hunt, washer toss and barbecue, The Islands Park, Shelburne Co.
  • paddling for families: canoe or kayak, Dollar Lake Park, Halifax Regional Municipality
  • historical park journey, Five Islands Park, Colchester Co.
  • antique fire truck and Department of Natural Resources helicopter (weather dependent), Smileys Park, Hants Co.
  • sand castle competition, Rissers Beach Park, Lunenburg Co.
  • scavenger hunts, nature walks, and pond exploration, Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park, Hants Co.
  • family fun days at Valleyview Park, Annapolis Co., Porters Lake Park, Halifax Regional Municipality, and many others.
