Province's Firefighters to Help Quebec

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Nova Scotia is sending a crew of 21 wildfire fighters to Quebec to help battle several forest fires that have been sending smoke into Nova Scotia skies in recent days.

"Our province is responding to Quebec's request for help just as other jurisdictions have helped Nova Scotia fight wildfires in our province in the past," said Charlie Parker, Minister of Natural Resources. "We are proud of our highly trained staff and wish our crew well in Quebec."

The firefighting crew will be fighting one or several fires in Quebec over a 14-day assignment period.

Nova Scotia's Department of Natural Resources will ensure the province maintains proper resources to continue to monitor and respond to fire risks within this province.

The number of wildfires in Nova Scotia so far this year is about half the number of fires last year.

The fire crew flies out for Quebec Saturday, July 20.
