Nova Scotians and visitors are advised that the Down North Cook House near Dingwall in Cape Breton is currently operating as a food service establishment without a permit.

The establishment is located at 30019 Cabot Trail, South Harbour, Victoria Co. It was ordered on Sept. 17 to stop operating, but has not complied with the order.

"Our regulations for food service establishments under the Health Protection Act are designed to protect the health of Nova Scotians and visitors," said Dr. Frank Atherton, deputy chief medical officer of health. "The Down North Cook House is not meeting essential hygiene standards and is not complying with the order to close. We advise Nova Scotians not to eat or drink at the establishment."

Customers of this establishment may be at risk of communicable diseases causing gastro-intestinal symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and fever. People who have consumed food, water or beverages from this establishment are advised to seek the advice of a health care provider should they experience symptoms.
