Asphalt Plant on the Market

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

The provincial asphalt plant is up for sale. General Combustion Corporation will advertise, market and promote the plant to prospective buyers on behalf of the province, starting Monday, March 3.

"We're not in the business of selling major pieces of equipment like an asphalt plant, so we brought in the experts who are well-established within the construction industry," said Geoff MacLellan, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "Our ultimate goal is to sell the plant quickly while getting the best possible return on investment."

General Combustion Corporation originally built and sold the plant to the province in 2011. As the manufacturer, it has a good, solid knowledge of the plant and a well-established client base for marketing and promoting.

The documents for the sale and removal of the surplus highway paving and chip sealing equipment, used as part of asphalt plant and chip seal operation, will be posted on the Public Tender's Office website at midnight Feb. 26. The equipment includes rollers, spreaders, distributor trucks and a large storage tank. The tender will close March 27.

The asphalt plant and chip seal operation was discontinued in the fall. General Combustion Corporation sold the plant to the province for $3.6 million.
