Traffic Advisory, Cabot Trail, Road Reduced to One Lane Due to Mudslide

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

INVERNESS COUNTY: Cabot Trail-Trunk 30, near Margaree Forks

A mudslide on a steep embankment on the Cabot Trail about one kilometre from Margaree Forks, Inverness Co., has reduced the road to one lane.

This is the second mudslide in the last two days at the same location. The mudslide was caused by warmer temperatures combined with significant snowfall on the mountains along the Cabot Trail.

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal road crews will remain at the site throughout the night. Traffic control is in place. Power crews have been called in to ensure the area is safe before debris is cleared from the road.

In the coming days, Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal will conduct an investigation into the stability of the embankment.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area and check 511 for updates.
