Northern Pulp Stack Test Results Posted

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

The Environment Department has posted the Northern Pulp mill's stack test results today, Sept. 26.

The tests and delivering the results directly to the department were part of the ministerial order issued to the company Aug. 21. The results are a benchmark measurement of current emissions.

The stack tests were done Aug. 26 by Stantec Consulting Ltd., before the mill's shutdown earlier this month for maintenance.

The results show that while emission levels for particulate on the recovery boiler are lower than noted in previous data, they are still above limits allowed under the company's industrial approval.

The data also show particulate emissions from the power boiler to be above approval limits. Work on the power boiler during the mill's shutdown in September is expected to have addressed the problem. Stack testing in late October will show if that is the case.

The company is on target to replace the precipitator, which should reduce emissions to within limits.
