Northern Pulp Stack Testing Underway

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

A second set of stack tests at the Northern Pulp mill have begun.

Testing started Oct. 15 and is expected to conclude by Friday, Oct. 24. The Environment Department will get results from the tests within 30 days after they are finished.

Stantec Consulting Ltd. is doing the stack tests, which are required as part of the ministerial order issued to the company Aug. 21.

Results are expected to show if work during the September shutdown reduced emissions and addressed a problem with the Pictou County mill's power boiler.

The company is on target to replace the precipitator, which should reduce emissions at the plant to within limits, as required in the ministerial order.

Results from the August stack tests can be found at http://www.novascotia.ca/nse/issues/northern-pulp-boat-harbour.asp .
