Two Hunters Win 2014 Licence of a Lifetime

Two Nova Scotian hunters are the winners of this year's Licence of a Lifetime lottery, giving them free, life-long hunting and fishing licences.

This is the 22nd year the province and the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters have jointly offered the prize.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Frank Dunn and the federation's president, Ian Avery, randomly selected the hunters' names today, Dec. 15. This year's winners are James Collins of Stewiacke, Colchester Co., and Jason Pickles, Meaghers Grant, Halifax Co.

"Hunting and fishing opportunities in Nova Scotia helped shape our provincial heritage and made us world-renowned as a destination for healthy, outdoor activities," said Mr. Dunn. "Mr. Collins and Mr. Pickles can now enjoy those opportunities free of charge, every year."

Each winner receives a general fishing licence, a small game hunting licence, and either a deer hunting, bear hunting, bear snaring or furharvester licence.

"With the province's generous support, we're able to give two Nova Scotian hunters a lifetime of fishing and hunting," said Mr. Avery. "We congratulate the winners and wish them good, safe hunting and angling experiences."

The Licence of a Lifetime is a fundraiser to support the federation's education and advocacy programs. The names of hunters and anglers who purchased tickets were entered into the annual draw.

All holders of hunting and fishing licences in Nova Scotia must first have a wildlife resources card and appropriate training. Information about the card is available at www.novascotia.ca/natr/hunt .
