Government Marks Red Tape Awareness Week

Service Nova Scotia (April 2014 - May 2019)

Government is marking the Canadian Federation of Independent Business's (CFIB) annual Red Tape Awareness Week, Jan. 19-23.

"We understand that business owners and citizens want their dealings with government to be as quick and efficient as possible," said Service Nova Scotia Minister Mark Furey. "My priority is to ensure we exceed the expectations of Nova Scotians in creating efficiencies for business, excellence in service for citizens, reducing red tape and pursuing regulatory excellence."

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Service Nova Scotia and CFIB will co-host a live Twitter chat on red tape reduction from 1-2 p.m. Join the conversation by using the hashtag #cutredtape.

Last week, Service Nova Scotia also announced a new structure, which will have two new branches, one focused on program modernization and red-tape reduction and the other focused on service excellence.

Along with its new structure, government has given Service Nova Scotia a mandate to deliver higher levels of service to Nova Scotians and be a leader in red-tape reduction and legislative modernization. This will make it easier for Nova Scotians, businesses and municipalities to interact with government.

On Jan. 19, the Council of Atlantic Premiers also announced the Atlantic Red Tape Reduction Partnership which will identify business regulations and administrative processes that can be harmonized and streamlined to create a more competitive economic environment across Atlantic Canada.

Every year, CFIB designates a week in January as Red Tape Awareness Week to raise public awareness about the negative impacts of excessive regulations on small businesses and citizens and to recognize government efforts to reduce red tape.
