Meeting on Road Renaming in Cape Breton Regional Municipality

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

A proposal to have a road in Cape Breton Regional Municipality renamed to honour a New Waterford coal miner will be discussed at a public meeting Wednesday, April 22.

The proposal would rename Route 28, leading from Dominion to New Waterford, William Davis Way, to coincide with the 90th anniversary of his death.

The meeting is being held at 6:30 p.m. at the Gardiner Mines Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club, 6438 Seaside Dr., New Waterford.

Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal staff are hoping to hear from residents and any other people that may be affected by the change.

William Davis was killed on June 11, 1925. Mr. Davis was shot during a protest to restore water and electricity after the utilities were turned off in response to escalating strikes to improve working conditions.
