Judicial Appointments Announced

Two appointments have been made to the Nova Scotia Provincial and Family Courts by the Attorney General and Justice Minister Diana Whalen.

Judge S. Raymond Morse has been appointed as associate chief judge of the Nova Scotia Family Court for a five-year term and Ann Marie MacInnes has been appointed as a judge of the Nova Scotia Provincial and Family Courts.

Judge Morse has presided in the Nova Scotia Family and Provincial Courts since 2011. He was called to the bar in 1978 and appointed Queen's counsel in 1999.

Judge MacInnes has worked with Nova Scotia Legal Aid and the Public Prosecution Service and has served as president of the Cape Breton Barristers Society. She was called to the bar in Nova Scotia in 1991.

"The Honourable Judge Morse has demonstrated he has the experience and skill to fill this important role in our justice system," said Diana Whalen, Attorney General and Justice Minister. "The Honourable Judge MacInnes is highly respected by her peers and brings extensive experience in legal aid, which gives me great confidence she will serve Nova Scotians well."

The provincial court presides over most indictable offence charges under the Criminal Code and has exclusive jurisdiction over all summary offence charges under provincial and federal statutes and regulations except a charge of murder by an adult.

The family court provides a forum to hear family issues, including maintenance, custody and access, and child protection matters.
