Telephone System Disruption

A disruption in the Bell Aliant telephone system is impacting service across the province.

The 911 system is able to receive calls, but the disruption is having some impact on the ability of dispatchers to forward calls to the appropriate organizations.

Alternate means, such as cellphones and trunk mobile radios, are being used to get these calls out. All medical calls are being successfully transferred to the Emergency Health Services dispatch centre.

The 811 system is also impacted and cannot receive calls. If you are experiencing a medical emergency go directly to the nearest emergency room or call 911 from a cellphone. Cellphone networks are not affected.

The cause of the issue has been identified and Bell Aliant is working to have service restored as quickly as possible.
