The province and Doctors Nova Scotia announced today, May 20, they have reached an agreement in principle. Doctors Nova Scotia represents more than 3,500 physicians in Nova Scotia.

"We're pleased an agreement in principle, that falls within our fiscal plan, has been reached with Doctors Nova Scotia," said Randy Delorey, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board. "I am encouraged by the progress we have made with doctors and urge others to engage in meaningful collective bargaining."

Government and Doctors Nova Scotia have shared a common interest throughout negotiations to ensure Nova Scotians receive the care they need, when and where they need it.

"Doctors play a vital role in our plans to develop a modern, innovative and accessible health care system," said Leo Glavine, Minister of Health and Wellness. "This agreement in principle is good news for Nova Scotians, patients and families."

Doctors Nova Scotia will meet with physicians across the province over the next several weeks to discuss the agreement. Ratification will take place in late June.

The last agreement with physicians expired on March 31, 2015.

Details of the agreement, which includes the Physician Alternative Funding Plan and the Physician Master Agreement will not be released until it is ratified by members.
