Fires Update, Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m.

The following is a provincial fire update for Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m.

  • the weather today is a mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of showers. Risk of thundershowers in the afternoon. Winds are out of the east at 25 km/hr, humidex 27
  • the fire at Seven Mile Lake, Annapolis Co. is 45 per cent contained and good progress is continuing. Objectives today are building guards, reinforcing lines and protecting unoccupied structures. Fire received 10 mm of rain yesterday that helped but more is needed. Crews will focus on targeting the head of the fire with water from the air. Current size of the fire is 395 hectares
  • there are no significant changes to other fires in western Nova Scotia from the Aug. 12, 4 p.m. update
  • Trunk 8 will continue to be closed today due to active water bombing operations
  • most of the air resources will be focussed on suppression efforts on the Seven Mile Lake fire today but will redirected to support other fires if needed
  • despite rain in some parts of the province, conditions continue to be extremely dry. Travel restrictions and a burn ban are in effect across Nova Scotia and people are asked to continue to avoid any activity that could potentially cause more fires
